| Elton John And Simon Cowell Sign Up To Help Sick Animals
Rock legends, sporting heroes and pop stars autographs are all up for grabs in aid of veterinary charity PDSA. So if you fancy getting your paws on the signatures of Sir Elton John (pictured), or everyone's favourite Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, or Greased Lightnin' babe Holly Willoughby, then log on to eBay and get bidding! The auction coincides with the start of eBay's animal campaign, encouraging people to either sell items they no longer need and donate a percentage of the sale to their chosen animal charity, or bid on items being sold. Funds raised for PDSA will help the veterinary charity provide free veterinary treatment for sick and injured pets. PDSA so relies on the generosity of the public to funds its PetAid services, which cost more than 41 million every year - and is counting on your bids to help keep tails wagging across the UK! So what are you waiting for? Log on to PDSA's website and follow the links through to the auction site.
Flags Hold Silent Auction for Black Jerseys
(PORT HURON, MICH.) - Through the end of the playoffs, the Port Huron Flags will have their game-worn black jerseys available for purchase in a silent auction, with multiple venues for fans to place their bids. Via the website, www.porthuronflags.net, the fan-favorite black jerseys are available to view, listed with current high bids. Interested parties may submit their maximum price online or by calling Lorraine Lixey at (810) 982-FLAG. Business news briefs
Shares of Mylan Laboratories Inc. rose nearly 7 percent yesterday on a court-ordered decision that the Food and Drug Administration not approve any more generic versions of Pfizer Inc.'s Norvasc until at least April 13. Mylan was the first to file for a generic version of Norvasc, a blood pressure drug, and was granted approval with a 180-day exclusivity period. It launched the generic version last week. The court order halting FDA generic approvals means only that Mylan and Pfizer will have their drugs on the market in the short term. Mylan shares settled back at the close, up $1.06, or 5.2 percent, at $21.28. Separately, Mylan said it had begun marketing ciprofloxacin extended-release tablets, the generic version of Bayer Pharmaceuticals' Cipro XR tablets. The drug is used to treat urinary tract infections.
FCMC Dinner Auction Nets $25000
Three hundred people packed the Hustontown Firehall on Saturday, April 14, for dinner and a chance to bid on more than three hundred silent and traditional auction items, all to benefit FCMCs new facility currently under construction. Those honored during the evening for their support and commitment over the past five years were Bonnie Mellott-Keefer, Helen Overly, Lyle Reed, Julia Dovey and the Hustontown Firehall and Ladies Auxiliary. Thanks to their efforts as well as everyone who attended the dinner auction each year, over $100,000 has been raised from this event alone for the new building project. Helping to make this years event a success was the addition of a gold sponsor. EMBARQ was the proud sponsor of this years auction, giving financial assistance to cover expenses, providing an auction item and supplying 30 door prizes of free phone cards for the lucky winners.
Football Manager goes MMO!
Sports Interactive and Sega have blown the lid off Football Manager Live, a new direction for the acclaimed football management sim that kicks it into the world of massively multiplayer online gaming.Scheduled to release in spring 2008, the game lets you create a football club from scratch and pit it against other virtual managers over the 'net. Sega describes it as "the definitive test of football management skills, allowing you to set-up mini-leagues amongst your friends, bid in player auctions and compete in live matches 24 hours a day, 365 days a year." Matches in Football Manager Live occur in real-time with games watched via a 2D match engine, and managers are given a range of tactical options with which to switch team play during on-pitch confrontations. You can also hurl ridicule at your manager opponent via in-game chat while on the virtual touchline, and managers can watch competitors play to scout out enemy strategy and tactics.
