Pope Car Auction Ends Without Sale

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A 1999 metallic gray Volkswagen Golf believed to once belong to the pope went up for sale on eBay, but the auction ended Saturday without a winner.

For the second time in two years, eBay hosted an auction for a car said to be Pope Benedict XVI's old hatchback. Though bids surpassed $204,000, a reserve price wasn't met.

The car's owner, a Texas-based online casino, GoldenPalace.com, bought the car in 2005 on eBay from a German man. The casino had posted two German automobile registration documents that list "Josef Kardinal Ratzinger" as the vehicle's previous owner.

A spokeswoman for eBay, Catherine Fisher, said she did not know what the seller's minimum price was. A message left with GoldenPalace.com was not immediately returned Saturday evening.

Proxibid Breaks Live-Auction Records in March

Proxibid announced it broadcast 350 live auctions during the month of March, a new record for the company, and signed on an unprecedented number of new clients. Proxibid Inc. is a pioneer of live Internet bidding technology with a client list of more than 800 auctioneer house customers. The company said the number of online bidders on Proxibid in March also reached a record high.

Proxibid's live bidding service is connected to an auction portal where auction companies can post their catalog for bidders to browse and search. The technology integrates seamlessly with the live auctions, allowing bidders to see, hear and participate in the auctions from the comfort of their home or office via the Internet.

Proxibid client Ken Jackson, CAI, of The Auction Marketplace said, "We have realized an additional 40% gross revenue when we conduct live auctions with Proxibid versus revenues realized during a traditional auction."

Proxibid client categories include antiques and collectibles, farm equipment, heavy machinery and real estate.

Tranzon to Auction off Five Luxury Condos in Downtown Boston

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tranzon Auction Properties, the nation's premier real estate auction group, will hold a public condominium closeout auction at the Langham Hotel for five units located at 65 Broad St. in Boston on Tuesday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. At this unique auction event, prospective buyers can make bids both in-person and online with the first unit sold as a bidder's choice with no minimum bid and no reserve.

Unlike the increasing number of real estate foreclosure auctions, these high-end, one-bedroom condo units—known as Lofts at Broad—must be immediately sold by developer Steve Sarcia in order to obtain capital for an important upcoming real estate project.

"I have a new project in town that I have to start so timing is of the essence," said Sarcia.

Gaming for profit: the story of over 4000 Diablo 2 keys

I read the story on digg: someone accumulated over 4,000 Diablo 2 keys and is now selling them for $5 a throw. That price includes a key for Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction. $5 is not a bad price for games that regularly still go for more at brick-and-mortar stores. Small sales add up though: if he sells them all he stands to make at least $20,000. I caught up with the man who runs this business endeavor, Frank Lau, and of course I had a few questions.

His first e-mail was intriguing. "... it all started when I had a small shop and was spamming Diablo 2 (at the time it really worked, in 2003). I had hundreds and hundreds of keys muted and banned (note: I don't sell those). Then I started mass buying them in hoping to spam and spam and spam... And then I got even more.
