| Elton John And Simon Cowell Sign Up To Help Sick Animals
Rock legends, sporting heroes and pop stars autographs are all up for grabs in aid of veterinary charity PDSA. So if you fancy getting your paws on the signatures of Sir Elton John (pictured), or everyone's favourite Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, or Greased Lightnin' babe Holly Willoughby, then log on to eBay and get bidding! The auction coincides with the start of eBay's animal campaign, encouraging people to either sell items they no longer need and donate a percentage of the sale to their chosen animal charity, or bid on items being sold. Funds raised for PDSA will help the veterinary charity provide free veterinary treatment for sick and injured pets. PDSA so relies on the generosity of the public to funds its PetAid services, which cost more than 41 million every year - and is counting on your bids to help keep tails wagging across the UK! So what are you waiting for? Log on to PDSA's website and follow the links through to the auction site.
Royal Navy Bidding War Begins In Earnest
A bidding war has begun after the Ministry of Defence last week gave the green light to the 15 Royal Navy personnel captured in Iranian waters, to sell their stories to the media.Several newspapers, magazines and TV stations have been vying for the rights to the sailors' accounts of their terrifying ordeals, and to turn them into coffee table mush.Faye Turkey, allegedly a "good gobbler", acted as "plaything" to Iranian leader Mahmoud Armadinnerlady, and was "stripped to her knickers". She is to be married to the despot in July, and has been talking to leading celebrity magazines with a view to selling the horrific photographic evidence of the event. But it's not only the stories that have been for sale.Sotheby's are to hold a special one-off event to auction-off some of the clothing worn by the former hostages.Captain Chris Air's beret, which he wore during his TV appearance, and Arthur Batchelor's underpants, which he shat during his capture, are part of the exclusive collection.Other items have surfaced on eBay.
VW Auctions Off Hoods Without Car Attached
We have no idea what anyone would want with a Volkswagen Touareg hood without the rest of the car attached to it but that's the premise of a promotion the automaker is doing as a benefit for Feed the Children. Volkswagen will auction off two Touareg hoods that were signed by 40 athletes, musicians and actors during a Las Vegas Volkswagen Important People promotion in Las Vegas February 16-18 and during the National Basketball Players' Association Gala February 17. The auction began yesterday with minimum bids set at $500. Sadly, neither of the bids (one, two) have seen any action yet which, again, begs the question...who wants a hood without the car even if it does have a bunch of celeb signatures. Despite that, we have no doubt the hoods will eventually be scooped up. .
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Auction Houses Being Shut Down
We already have a fix which we're currently testing. This fix will be rolled into the game as quickly as possible. In order to do this, we will try to move our next patch forward by a day and schedule it for tomorrow (time TBA). The bad news: In the meantime, we're closing the Auction Houses throughout the game. Players will not be able to post new auctions or bid on existing auctions. Here's what this means to current users of the Auction System:Any auction which was scheduled to end between the time we closed the auction houses and the time we come back up after patching, will end on schedule. If the item had a bid before the system was shut down, the item will go to the highest bidder when the auction system is re-opened..If the item did not have a bid, it will be returned to its owner when the auction system is re-opened.Any auction which was not scheduled to end until after the auction houses are re-opened will continue normally.Unfortunately, listing fees will not be automatically refunded by the system.
Another Round of Chrysler Bids Expected This Week
Potential Chrysler suitors are expected to make another round of bids for the Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automaker this week. The bids could trickle in as early as today because parent company DaimlerChrysler AG [ticker: DCX] is preparing for senior-level management meetings Wednesday, with the sale an expected hot topic. If a deal were to take place in the near future, operations and production of automobiles would likely transfer to the new parent quickly, while DaimlerChrysler might retain a stake in the financing operations for an extended period of time, according to unnamed sources in a Detroit News article. Daimler’s minority stake would likely preclude them from any day-to-day management over any part of the company, an unnamed source said. Private equity firms Cerberus Capital Management and The Blackstone Group as well as Canadian auto parts maker Magna International with partner Onex Corp.
