BSkyB and Carphone join bidding to enter radio

British Sky Broadcasting and Carphone Warehouse are poised to enter the radio industry, having put their names into a bid for the UK's second national digital radio multiplex. The bid, led by Channel 4, is backed by a consortium including BSkyB, Carphone, Emap, UTV, UBC, Chrysalis and Virgin Radio. The consortium is bidding against National Grid Wireless for the multiplex licence. It is understood that the shareholders are putting in an initial £2m for the Channel 4 consortium. Apart from a £50,000 fee paid to Ofcom, the licence itself is free. The consortium will pay for building a network if and when it wins the licence.

Energy Ministry to open bidding for power buy in Apr

Energy ministry will open bidding for purchasing electricity from private power producers in April as scheduled, Minister Piyasvasti Amranand said Wednesday.

Invitations to IPPs (independent power producers) will be issued late this month. The selection process will be by the next government, Piyasvasti said.

Bids must be submitted by October, with the selection of winners set for April 2008 and the finalisation of a power purchase agreement in October that year, Piyasvasti said.

According to Piyasvasti, the government plans to buy 3,000-4,000 megawatts from private producers for adding new power generation capacity during 2011-2013. This will boost the country's current total installed capacity of 27,789 MW.

Brewer twice as right

They gave him the royal treatment during our visit, and that's where I wanted him to go.

"But he didn't click with those guys over there. He clicked with the guys at Florida. I'm glad I let him make his own decision because it couldn't have worked out any better."

Glenda and several other friends and family members, including Corey's older brother, Jason Rogan, will be in Atlanta this weekend to see if the Gators can deflect all the Billy Donovan-to-Kentucky talk and defend their title.

They face UCLA tonight in the second semifinal at the Georgia Dome. Georgetown and Ohio State meet in the first semifinal.

"It was tough just because of the expectations, night in and night out everybody playing their best game against us," said Corey, who's averaging a team-high 15.8 points in NCAA Tournament play.

CEPS auctions imported HIV drugs

The Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) has auctioned a container load of anti-retroviral drugs and relief items imported for persons living with HIV/AIDS.

The import from an American based charity, Aid for AIDS Africa, reportedly arrived in Ghana in August last year, but was not cleared within the one month period expected.

The Founder and President of the US charity group, Maurice Graham has been in Ghana for the past three weeks trying to trace the shipment.

But the Public Affairs Director of CEPS, Ms Annie Anipa disclosed to Joy News that the medical supplies were auctioned on the 22nd of last month because no one came forward to claim it.

After the expiration of the free storage period and the legal allowable time for goods to be kept at that freight station the goods were auctioned.

Bidding war lifts Europe

European equity markets sparkled on Monday, with London's FTSE 100 shares index hitting a six year high as investors spied a potential bidding war for Dutch bank ABN Amro.

The FTSE 100 index closed 0.83 percent higher at 6516.20 points, its highest level since 14 September, 2000. In Paris, the Cac 40 rose 1.25 percent to 5861.97 points. In Frankfurt, the Dax rose 1.75 percent to 7338.06 points.

The DJ Euro Stoxx 50 index of eurozone blue chip shares gained 1.43 percent to 4379.25 points.

In Europe, investors tracked news on ABN Amro, which is in exclusive talks with Britain's Barclays Bank about a takeover deal.
