| Pope Car Auction Ends Without Sale
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A 1999 metallic gray Volkswagen Golf believed to once belong to the pope went up for sale on eBay, but the auction ended Saturday without a winner. For the second time in two years, eBay hosted an auction for a car said to be Pope Benedict XVI's old hatchback. Though bids surpassed $204,000, a reserve price wasn't met. The car's owner, a Texas-based online casino, GoldenPalace.com, bought the car in 2005 on eBay from a German man. The casino had posted two German automobile registration documents that list "Josef Kardinal Ratzinger" as the vehicle's previous owner. A spokeswoman for eBay, Catherine Fisher, said she did not know what the seller's minimum price was. A message left with GoldenPalace.com was not immediately returned Saturday evening.

Italy is up against joint bids from Poland and Ukraine, and Hungary and Croatia. All three made their final presentations Tuesday, and UEFA's 14-man executive board will choose the host Wednesday. .
FTSE 100 movers: Boots rockets as bids mount up
LONDON (SHARECAST) - An auction for Alliance Boots between Terra Firma and KKR/Pessina has sent the chemist chain shooting to the top of the FTSE 100 leaderboard. Terra Firma fired the last shot by upping its offer to 1,126p and topping an agreed bid of 1,090p announced by KKR/Pessina this morning. As yet, the AB board has not responded to the Terra Firma bid. Standard Chartered has recovered along with Asian markets as concern over the runaway growth of the Chinese economy eases. There were early losses for WPP as the advertising giant reported "slightly disappointing" first quarter revenue figures, although Goldman Sachs kept the shares as a "buy". The broker said the 0.7% drop in reportable revenues to 1.37bn was 2.6% below its estimate of 1.40bn, mainly due to an underestimation of the exchange rate impact.
Victorian family valuables
SCOTTISH women rooting around the hand-me-downs in the bottom of their jewellery box could be in for a pleasant surprise, as a number of factors are presently conspiring to push up the price of Victorian-era jewellery, much of which contains semi- precious gems originating from Scotland. One consequence of this increase in value, however, is that women could find themselves seriously under-insured. To rectify this situation, you will first need to obtain a realistic value for such items and then set about making sure you are properly protected. Royal Deeside was a favourite vacation spot for Queen Victoria and Cairngorm, a locally found gem with a smoky quartz colour, was a popular choice in many Victorian pieces. .
Elton John And Simon Cowell Sign Up To Help Sick Animals
Rock legends, sporting heroes and pop stars autographs are all up for grabs in aid of veterinary charity PDSA. So if you fancy getting your paws on the signatures of Sir Elton John (pictured), or everyone's favourite Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, or Greased Lightnin' babe Holly Willoughby, then log on to eBay and get bidding! Funds raised for PDSA will help the veterinary charity provide free veterinary treatment for sick and injured pets. PDSA so relies on the generosity of the public to funds its PetAid services, which cost more than 41 million every year - and is counting on your bids to help keep tails wagging across the UK! So what are you waiting for? Log on to PDSA's website and follow the links through to the auction site.
